Bio

Dr. Michael John Burton is a scholar with deep experience in high-consequence decision-making.  Formerly an associate professor of Political Science at Ohio University teaching political leadership, data analysis, campaign management, and strategic thinking, he has been involved in national politics for three decades, including his work in the office of Vice President Al Gore as special assistant to the chief of staff and assistant political director.

Dr. Burton serves on the national board of the American Association of Political Consultants. He volunteers in the Colorado Rockies an EMT for Silverton Medical Rescue.

With William J. Miller and Daniel M. Shea, he has written Campaign Craft: The Strategies, Tactics, and Art of Political Campaign Management and with Shea he has written Campaign Mode: Strategic Vision in Congressional Elections.  Scholarly articles go to electoral strategy, White House operations, consumer protection, and firearms law.

He received his A.B. (1986) and M.A. (1988) from Ohio University, and his Ph.D. (1995) from the State University of New York at Albany.

Although Dr. Burton has a professional interest in rational decision-making, personal distractions include high-altitude mountaineering and ultra-marathon running.
